Anaïs is an Erasmus student visiting from Nancy, France. She is currently studying Spanish and Translation. She was interested in the SAAM Project because it will be her first experience translating something official, and she loves the fact that she will be helping charities. She is also looking forward to learning new skills in subtitling and translation. Some of her hobbies include watching TV series, listening to music, and travelling.

Antonia is from Bucharest in Romania. She is a second year Modern Languages student at UEA. She is interested in Japan, cultures around the world (particularly in Asia) as well as being interested in making meaningful change. Antonia decided to join the SAAM Project in order to learn more about a topic which she feels is so important, and yet sometimes overlooked: Audio-visual products. Through the project she hopes to better understand what it is like to be a language mediator, translator or subtitle creator. She is also looking forward to having the opportunity to use professional technological tools and software for subtitling.

Ashley is from Berkshire, England. She is currently in her final year studying Modern Languages (French and Spanish) at UEA. She decided to become part of the SAAM Project after doing a module on multimedia during her Year Abroad at the University of Granada, in Spain. The module opened her eyes to the importance of making multimedia accessible to everyone regardless of personal limitations, and so when she heard about the SAAM Project, she knew she wanted to be a part of the team. Some of her other interests include travelling, going to music concerts, and writing for the UEA Spanish magazine La Taberna.

Claudia is from León, Spain. She is studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá, and she is currently doing her Erasmus year at UEA. Claudia decided to join the SAAM Project to help children among different countries, as well as to improve her translation skills. She is also hoping to widen her awareness of other cultures through this project. Her hobbies include trying new dances, foods, customs, and languages of other countries.

Elayna is from Suffolk, England and is currently in her final year studying Translation, Media, French and Spanish. She is participating in the SAAM project in order to gain experience using the Subtitling and Dubbing software she will be using in a module she is taking next year. Elayna also wants to participate in a real-life translation project which will help others, by providing accessible materials to those who need them. Some of her hobbies include reading, singing, playing the ukulele, and going to the gym.

Chloe is a UEA student in her final year. She is studying Spanish with International Development Studies, but she also has a keen interest in translation. Chloe wanted to be a part of the SAAM Project because she thinks it will be a great opportunity to gain some practical skills, as well as help her to improve her Spanish. Chloe also has an interest in anthropology, which combines both side of her degree and focuses on how language is perceived by different audiences, so she is pleased that the SAAM Project will feed into this. Some of her interests include reading, cooking, and watching new TV series.

Elise is a French Erasmus student from Nancy and she is currently studying Spanish, Translation and History at UEA. She wanted to take part in the SAAM Project because it will be her first real experience at translation, and she hopes it will encourage her to pursue translation as a future job. Elise also thinks it will be a great opportunity to develop her translation and subtitling skills, and she is glad to be contributing to good causes. Her hobbies include music, video games, and films, playing the guitar, and discovering new cultures.

Ellie is from Norfolk, England. She is in her final year studying French and Spanish at UEA. Ellie wanted to take part in the SAAM Project in order to improve her translation abilities as well as to be able to help out local organisations. Some of Ellie’s hobbies include travelling, fashion, and experiencing new cultures.

Ellie is from an English family, but she grew up living in the South of France. She is in her final year at UEA studying Translation, Media, and Spanish. Ellie decided to join the SAAM Project because she is hoping to gain as much experience as possible in the translation industry and so she felt that this would be a fantastic opportunity for her to do that. She is also looking forward to helping charities to expand their horizons and reach as many people as they can with their content. Ellie’s hobbies include playing Korfball, badminton, rugby, and climbing. She also likes to paint and draw.

Henny is from Suffolk, England. She is currently in her final year studying Translation, Media and Spanish at UEA. Henny is taking part in this project because she believes it to be a fantastic opportunity to be able to contribute to the valuable work that the charities and organisations involved in this project do. She is also hoping to develop her translation skills with a hope to one day become a professional translator. In her free time, Henny enjoys mixing music, playing football, and petting dogs.

Izzy is from Cheshire, England. She is currently in her final year studying Translation, Media, and Spanish at UEA. After taking the module Technological Tools for Subtitling and Dubbing in her second year, she became interested in creating accessible media through the use of subtitles. She therefore wanted to join the SAAM Project in order to become a part of the solution to the problem of inaccessibility within different media forms, due to language barriers. Her interests include, watching films, music, and knitting.

Eva is from Austria but is a full-time student at UEA. She is in her second-year studying Japanese. Eva wanted to volunteer for the SAAM programme because she believes that it will be a rewarding experience where she will be able to help to make media a little bit more accessible to the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. She is looking forward to learning a new skill whilst also learning more about the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community.

Jack is a UEA student in his final year studying French at UEA. He is originally from Suffolk, England. Jack wants to be a part of the SAAM Project because he has enjoyed the translation and interpreting modules which he has taken throughout his time at university. He would also like to be able to apply the skills he has learned and expand on his linguistic knowledge in a way that is both practical and creative. In terms of hobbies, Jack is interested in music from all over the world, writing, and learning other languages.

Jake is from Felixstowe, England. He is in his second year at UEA, studying International Relations and Politics. Jake decided to take part in the SAAM Project because he believes it will be a worthwhile cause, benefitting the deaf and hard of hearing. He is also looking forward to getting experience in using professional subtitling software. Some of Jake’s hobbies include hiking, video editing and general volunteering.

Katie is originally from the South of England but has lived in Ipswich for the past 10 years. She is currently in her final year studying joint honours French and Spanish at UEA. After studying in Salamanca, Spain for her Year Abroad and working as a receptionist in France during the summer, Katie decided to join the SAAM project in order to help organisations create materials, and to advance her translation skills. Her hobbies include reading fiction books of all genres.

Kim is a Translation and Interpretation student in her first year, studying French and Japanese. She is British, but ethnically Chinese (Hong Kong). Kim wanted to contribute to the SAAM Project because she is not only eager to learn more about subtitling - after having been influenced by watching Studio Ghibli films with English subtitles, but she is also interested in giving back to the community and improving global communication, particularly for those with hearing difficulties or hearing loss.

Lucie is an Erasmus student from Cannes, France. She is currently a modern languages student studying English and Spanish. Lucie wanted to take part in the SAAM Project because she feels it will be a great opportunity for her expand her translation skills and is pleased to be helping various charitable associations through the project. Some of her hobbies include dancing, and music.

Khalea is from Trinidad and Tobago and is currently in her final year at UEA studying Spanish and International Development. She became interested in the SAAM project as a chance to practice her translation skills and was further motivated to join by the opportunity to contribute in a small way to the work of the project’s non-profit partners. A quiet communicator, Khalea is also an avid music listener and Arsenal fan with a habit of buying books that remained untouched for months.

María is from Cadiz, in the south of Spain. She is currently in her first-year studying Translation and Interpreting with French and German. María was interested in joining the SAAM Project because she felt that it would be a good chance to gain experience in the field of translation and also a way to use her skills to help contribute to charities. In her spare time María likes to draw, listen to music, watch films, and play the guitar.

María is from the small village of Albacete in Spain. She is studying Translation and Interpreting in Murcia, Spain, and is at UEA for her Year Abroad. She is looking forward to using the SAAM Project as a way of acquiring new translation skills and meeting fantastic people. She is also happy that through the project she will be able to help others. Some of her hobbies include listening to music, studying languages and singing.

Martyna is originally from Poland, but she has lived in the UK for most of her life. She is currently in her final year studying Psychology at UEA. Martyna wanted to take part in the SAAM project because she enjoys helping people in any way that she can. She is also very interested in improving accessibility for people who don’t speak English or are deaf/ hard of hearing.

Solveig is an Erasmus student from the Lyon 3 university in France. She is studying Translation, and British and American Literature and Civilization. Solveig decided to join the SAAM Project because she thinks it will be an amazing opportunity for her to learn new skills in subtitling and translation, which will aid her in her future as a translator. She is also interested in working with and helping charities through SAAM. Her hobbies include travelling, music, and learning about new languages and cultures such as Russian and Korean.

María moved in 2015 from Córdoba to Madrid to do her degree in Translation and Interpreting at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is now finishing her last semester at UEA as an Erasmus student. María decided to join the SAAM Project because she sees it as an incredible opportunity to gain experience in the translation industry while also helping different charities. Her main interests are audiovisual and literary translation, as well as enjoying fiction in all its forms.

Elisa is from Madrid, the capital of Spain. She is currently in her first year studying Translation and Interpreting with French and Chinese. Elisa was interested in joining the SAAM Project because she felt that it would be a good chance to gain experience in the field of translation, whileat the same time using her skills to help charity. In her free time, Elisa likes to read, listen to music, play the guitar and write.

Romane is an Erasmus student from Clermont-Ferrand, in France, where she studies Applied Foreign Languages. She was interested in the SAAM Project because it will enable her to improve her skills in translation in a more “professional” environment. On the other hand, she also enjoys the fact that she can put her skills at the service of charities, so she can help people and feel useful.

During her free time, Romane likes dancing and doing sports. She also really enjoys going to the cinema and traveling.

Ana is from Toledo in Spain and she is studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá in Madrid. She is currently on her Year Abroad at UEA. Ana decided to take part in the SAAM Project because she is really interested in audio-visual translation and saw SAAM as a great opportunity to improve her translation skills whilst also helping people. Some of her hobbies include watching films and TV series and learning new languages.

Melissa is in her final year studying Modern Languages and Translation at the university of Alcalá, in Madrid. She was born in Venezuela but has lived in Spain for her whole life. Melissa wanted to become a part of SAAM because she thinks it will be a great opportunity for her to gain experience in translation, as well as being able to meet new people who share her love for languages. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys reading books and watching TV series.

Victoria is from Madrid, Spain, and is currently in her final year studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. She has been studying web design by herself and she is able to apply her knowledge to web localisation, a field in which she is very interested. Victoria decided to join the SAAM Project to gain more experience in translation and sees it as a great opportunity to gain real-world practise of audio-visual translation. She is also a freelance illustrator and loves to take every opportunity to work with people from all around the world.

Roberto is a student at the University of Alcalá de Henares, studying Modern Languages and Translation. Roberto wanted to participate in the SAAM Project because he wants to gain experience working in the field of translation, so that he is better prepared for a professional career. He also finds audio-visual translation interesting in terms of language use and code-switching. Some of Roberto’s hobbies include reading and playing video games.

Nerea is originally from a town near Toledo, but she is currently studying Modern Languages and Translation at the university of Alcalá. Nerea is in her final year of study, and she decided to join the SAAM project because she thought it would be a good way to improve her knowledge of translation, especially regarding subtitling and dubbing. Nerea also thinks that this will be a good opportunity for her to help non-profit organisations. Some of her hobbies include learning new languages, reading, and writing stories.

Elena is from Valencia, Spain. She is studying modern languages and translation at the university of Alcalá currently. Elena is looking forward to being part of the SAAM project, because she thinks it will be a great opportunity to learn about audio-visual translation, which is a topic she has been very interested in, since learning about it this year. Elena also thinks that it will be a great experience to collaborate with the charities involved. In her free time, Elena like to travel, and she enjoys learning about new cultures.

Eva is a student from Valencia who is currently in her fourth year at the university of Alcalá de Henares. She is currently studying Modern Languages and Translation. Eva wanted to join the SAAM Project because she thinks it will be a nice opportunity to help others through her work. Some of Eva’s hobbies include travelling, playing sports, and learning languages.

Ismael is from Madrid, in Spain. He is currently in his fourth year at the university of Alcalá, studying Modern Languages and Translation. Ismael wanted to be a part of the SAAM Project in order to gain experience in and learn as much as possible about translation. In terms of hobbies, Ismael is a big fan of videogames, TV shows, rap battles, and learning languages.

Alba is from Córdoba, in Spain. She is currently in her final year studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. She chose to become part of the SAAM Project because it will give her a great opportunity to work with non-profit organizations, while being able to gain experience in translation and using professional software. In the future Alba would like to work in audio-visual translation. In her spare time, Alba love playing the guitar, and piano. Alba also volunteers at a children’s hospital.
