Amparo is from a small village in Ciudad Real, Spain. She is studying Translation and Interpreting at the University of Granada and this is her third year. She is currently doing her Erasmus year at UEA. Amparo decided to join the SAAM project to improve her translation skills, to help some non-profit organisations, and because she would like to do a master's degree in audio-visual Translation. Some of her hobbies include reading books, watching series, and helping in a non-profit organisation which takes care of feral cats.

Andrea is a third-year international student who comes from the University of Alcalá de Henares, in Madrid, Spain. She is studying Modern Languages and Translation and is currently doing her year abroad at the University of East Anglia. She decided to join the SAAM project because she wanted to improve her translation skills, as well as learn something new about audio-visual translation, in which she is particularly interested. She is quite creative, and she loves literature and cinema, so, in the future, she would like to work as a scriptwriter or in something related to subtitling and dubbing. She is also a very enthusiastic girl, full of energy, and dying to live amazing new experiences.

Carol is an Italo-Egyptian full-time student at UEA. She is currently in her final year of her Spanish and Japanese Modern Languages degree. She decided to join the SAAM project team because she is interested in making language more accessible to everyone whilst giving her own contribution to the community. Joining in the SAAM project gave her skills that can make her more employable in the future, besides the chance of working with native people- an occasion that has helped her to improve her language ability too. During her free time, she enjoys discovering different cafes around the city or going for a run.

Ella is currently in her second year studying Spanish. She decided to volunteer for the SAAM project because she wants to eventually work in dubbing and subtitling international films, and she thinks that this is the perfect way to gain experience. Alongside her love for languages, she is also an active member of the Drama society, and a committee member of the Latin Social Dance society. She spends most of her spare time in dance classes, having a boogie! She loves being a SAAM project volunteer because it’s rewarding and provides the chance to meet and work with so many new people from UEA and other universities around the world.

Giulia studies Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. She is currently on her Year Abroad, studying Translation and Interpreting at the University of East Anglia. She is Brazilian, but she lives in Spain. Therefore, languages have always had a very important role in her life. She decided to join the SAAM project due to her wish to continue to work with social awareness and bringing accessibility everywhere. The SAAM project also had a significant impact on her academic development, as up to that moment, she had not had any kind of subtitling module. In her free time, she enjoys playing Touch Rugby and collaborating with Erasmus Students Network Association.

Helena is from Granada, in the south of Spain. She is studying English and French with Translation and Interpreting and she is also studying Tourism at the University of Granada. She is currently on her year abroad at the University of East Anglia. Helena joined the SAAM project because she thought it was a good chance to help charitable organisations using her skills. She also wanted to gain experience in the field of subtitling and she wanted to prepare herself for the module Technological Tools for Subtitling and Dubbing. In her spare time, her hobbies are playing baseball, listening to music, and watching films and TV series.

Originally from Leicester and in her second year at UEA, Holly is studying French and Spanish with Translation and Interpreting. She decided to join the SAAM Project as she felt it would be a great opportunity to gain extra practice in subtitling, so helping her with the module Technological Tools for Subtitling and Dubbing, she’s taking this semester. Holly believes that this project will be challenging, but will be a great opportunity to learn lots both in translation and in subtitling. Taking part in this project and helping charitable organisations, she feels, will be very rewarding.

Katherine Wright is a final year translation and interpreting student at UEA, working with French and Spanish. She decided to join the SAAM project to help gain practice using WinCaps, a feature of the technological tools modules that she studies, as well as practising her translation skills. She also finds the work incredibly rewarding and important, considering the impact it has on helping charities to achieve their goals and helping more people to be able to access audio-visual media. Thanks to working with this project, she has been inspired to study audio-visual translation at Masters level and to go on to make it her career. In her free time, Katherine enjoys playing the clarinet, spending time with friends, and improving her language skills.

Laura is an Erasmus student at UEA. Back in her home university (University of Alicante) she is in her third year of studying Translation and Interpreting. She decided to join the SAAM project in order to explore other areas of translation and to see what the job of a translator is really like. In her free time, she loves to read, dance, and spend time with her friends and family.

Laurie is in his fourth and final year at UEA, studying Spanish, Media and Translation. After spending his third year in Zaragoza, Spain, his confidence in language speaking greatly increased, motivating him to volunteer for the SAAM project as a way to not only continue using Spanish more often, but also to help out with a great cause for those who need it. Laurie also speaks some French and has recently started learning German and likes to watch shows on Netflix or play squash in his spare time.

Lucía is an enthusiastic Translation and Interpreting student in her final year. She is an Erasmus student from Spain whose home university is the University of Granada (UGR). She joined the SAAM project because she wants to contribute to the community as she believes that language should never be a barrier to people’s lives and experiences. She is passionate about travelling and discovering new cities and different people, learning new languages, reading, and practising yoga.

Lucie is in her year abroad at the University of East Anglia, studying Translation and Interpreting. She is originally from Orléans but her school, ISIT (International School of Interpreting and Translation), is in the region of Paris, France. She joined the SAAM project because she loves dealing and playing with languages. She is also interested in learning new languages such as Chinese or Korean.

Bonjour! Luka Gille is an exchange student from Nancy in France. He has always had a deep running interest in translation and humanitarianism, but never had the opportunity to work at a professional level. Coming to UEA and participating in the SAAM project has helped him to improve his translation skills A LOT, as well as teaching him other skills such as time management and data organisation. He now feels way more confident!

Maria is from Madrid, Spain, and she is currently in her final year of Translation, Media, and Modern Languages, with Japanese and Spanish. She has joined the SAAM project in order to participate in a real-life translation project that will help others, by providing accessible materials to those who need them. In addition, in the future she would like to pursue a career in audio-visual Translation. Some of her interests include reading, travelling, anime, and learning new languages.

María José is from Alicante, Spain. She is studying Translation and Interpreting at the University of Alicante. She chose the University of East Anglia to do her Year Abroad, so she is currently an Erasmus student. She decided to become part of the SAAM project because she wanted to participate in a real-life translation project and help other charity organisations by providing them with accessible materials. María also wanted to further develop her translation and subtitling skills and to expand her language abilities. Some of her interests include reading, travelling, socialising with people around the world, and writing for the UEA Spanish magazine La Taberna. One of her main passions is learning new languages, in fact, she speaks Spanish, Catalan, English, French and Russian.

Paul is in his second year studying Modern Languages (Double Honours) in Japanese and Spanish at the University of East Anglia. He volunteers with the SAAM project because he wanted to improve his language acquisition in both Spanish and English as well as support charities and gain knowledge in that field area. In his free time, he enjoys swimming and exploring the countryside whilst chatting with close friends.

Raúl is from Albacete, Spain, and he is studying Translation and Interpreting at the University of Alicante. He is specialised in translating from and to Spanish, English, German, Italian, and Catalan. He is currently doing his year abroad at the University of East Anglia. Raúl is very interested in audio-visual translation and that is why he decided to take part in the SAAM project. He thinks that this project is a great opportunity to improve his translation skills whilst helping people. Raúl’s hobbies include playing and watching football, general volunteering, and learning new languages.

Sara moved from a small town in Cadiz to Seville to study Translation and Interpreting at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide. She is currently in her third year and she joined the SAAM project to develop her skills and familiarise herself with audio-visual translation. She also believes that helping non-profit organisations will be a rewarding experience. In her spare time, Sara enjoys listening to music, reading, and watching films and TV shows.

Silvia is a third-year international student from the University of Alcalá in Madrid, where she studies Modern Languages and Translation. She was interested in joining the SAAM project because she thought it would be a good chance to improve her translation skills and at the same time gain some experience. In her spare time, Silvia likes to read, listen to music, and go out with her friends. She is very energetic and she is always open to new experiences.

Ana is from Toledo in Spain and she is studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá in Madrid. She is currently on her Year Abroad at UEA. Ana decided to take part in the SAAM Project because she is really interested in audio-visual translation and saw SAAM as a great opportunity to improve her translation skills whilst also helping people. Some of her hobbies include watching films and TV series and learning new languages.

Marie is an Erasmus student for the Autumn semester. She is from Nancy (in the North-East of France) and is in her third year studying at the Université de Lorraine. Marie decided to join the SAAM project team as she is really interested in translation and this was an opportunity for her to challenge her skills and improve them. She is also a huge Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Stephen King fan.

Christine is studying Intercultural Communication and Business Management in the PPL school at UEA, and she is currently in her first year. She is interested in language and business. She is from Hong Kong, and speaks Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. She decided to join the SAAM project because she has a strong interest in Media and Translation, and she wants to be involved in translation jobs in the future. Therefore, she wants to use this project as an opportunity to build up her skills and talent in linguistics, translation, and even group work. Moreover, she has noticed that the Project’s aim is to help the community, and she would like to use her knowledge to lend society a helping hand.

Javier decided to join the SAAM project to gain experience in translation, especially in audio-visual translation, one of the branches in which he would like to work. Natalia is from Madrid. She is studying her last year of translation at the University of Alcalá de Henares. She decided to join the SAAM project team because she thought it would be a great opportunity to practise and improve her subtitling skills and to get to know people from other countries. In her free time, she loves to watch movies and shows, both the dubbed and the original versions to see how puns, jokes and expressions are translated, and in the case that she doesn't like the translation, she tries to think of a better one.

Laura is from Torrejón de Ardoz in Madrid, Spain. She is studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá de Henares. She wants to participate in the SAAM project because she is really interested in audio-visual translation. Moreover, she believes this is a great opportunity to improve her translation skills and learn many new things in a different way. Some of her hobbies include studying languages and travelling.

Nicole is from Guadalajara, Spain. She is in her final year studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. Nicole is taking part in the SAAM project because she feels it will be a great opportunity to acquire and improve her translation skills whilst helping people. Javier is in his third year studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá in Madrid. He decided to join the SAAM project because he likes collaborative projects and solidarity with associations and NGOs. It is good practice for his future job, since it serves as practice for what he will be dedicated to in the future.

Gloria is from Alcalá de Henares and studies Modern Languages and Translation at the university there. Gloria is in her final year of studies and she has decided to be a part of the SAAM project because she believes that this experience will help her improve her skills as a translator and she sees the idea of collaborating with NGOS as striking. Some of her hobbies include travelling, reading, and exploring Italian culture.

Paula is from Madrid and she is studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá (Madrid). She has been on a year abroad at the FHWS in Würtzburg (Germany). Paula decided to take part in the SAAM project because she would like to work as an audio-visual translator and for her, SAAM is a great opportunity to improve her translation skills and help people at the same time. She likes sports, reading, and learning new languages. She also works as a basketball coach with children.

Ewa is in her final year of studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. She is from Spain, although her parents are from Poland. She is in the SAAM project thanks to her huge interest in subtitling and dubbing. In her free time, she likes to watch TV series and movies, and to spend time with her friends.

Dragos is a fourth-year Modern Languages and Translation degree student, and a translation enthusiast. He joined the SAAM project to go one step further into the world of audio-visual translation. He loves to help and participate. In his spare time, he likes to play sports and go to the gym.

Pilar is from Burgos in Spain. She is studying Translation and Modern Languages at the University of Alcalá de Henares in Madrid. She is interested in being a part of the SAAM project because she would like to have a career in audio-visual translation, after completing her degree. Some of her hobbies include performing arts, and anything to do with cinema.

Daniel is a student of Modern Languages and Translation. He’s now in his fourth year of this degree. He joined the SAAM project because he wanted to improve his skills in audio-visual translation and because he believes this is a great project which he wants to be a part of. He likes watching sports, especially basketball and American football, and TV shows and films. He is a fan of fantasy literature and loves reading comics.
