Amber is from Lincolnshire and is studying Translation and Interpreting in her third year. She joined the SAAM project three years ago because she believes that accessibility is vital for creating change in the world. SAAM has let her do her bit to make the world a bit more accessible and she has had the opportunity to translate and subtitle important materials from a variety of charities. She is currently on her year abroad in Granada, Spain and hopes to one day be working in public service interpreting or translation.  

Eva is originally from Austria but moved to Norwich to study at UEA, where she completed a BA in Japanese language and an MA in Literary Translation. She has been volunteering for SAAM since 2018, pausing only for her year abroad. She feels passionate about subtitling and enjoys collaborating with her fellow volunteers. Eva believes in the SAAM Project's mission of making media a little bit more accessible, one video at a time, and is proud of the work she has done and continues to do for SAAM. What she likes most about the project is knowing that the subtitles she helps produce are not just for practice but will benefit real people. Dr Carlos de Pablos-Ortega and his SAAM Project have really sparked a passion in Eva, and she now works as a subtitler full time. 

"Eimee is from Hampshire, UK. She is a UEA alumna who did her BA in Translation and Interpreting. She spent a couple of years working in Nancy, France before completing an MA in Translation and Interpreting back in the UK. She currently works as a French|Spanish|English translator. Eimee has always had a passion for languages and the SAAM Project creates the perfect environment in which to combine the exciting challenge of overcoming language barriers with the ability to provide accessible content to all those who need it through audiovisual translation.

Violeta is a Translation and Interpreting student from Spain currently on a year abroad at UEA. Besides her native language, she speaks English, French, and is currently learning British Sign Language. She chose to work with SAAM because it is a great opportunity to help charities make their content more accessible while also developing your subtitling skills and getting started in the field of translation. 

Katie is a second-year Spanish modern language student, who is heading to Madrid in September for her year abroad. She recently began a module in subtitling and dubbing and is very keen to learn more about it, as she is considering a career in that kind of field. Katie was already familiar with the work of some of the charities associated with the SAAM project and had the opportunity to volunteer for one of them, new routes, in the Autumn semester. Therefore, after this great experience, she is very excited about the opportunity to work with and contribute to these organisations that she admires in a new way. 

Frances is in her first year at UEA studying Translation and Interpreting with Spanish and Japanese. She is very keen to learn more about translation as a career, so she has joined SAAM to gain practical experience in translation and subtitling. She is also looking forward to working alongside the other volunteers. 

James is from Windsor in the United Kingdom. He studies International Relations and Modern Languages at the University of East Anglia and is currently studying abroad in La Réunion. James decided to take part in the SAAM project because of his natural affinity for languages and to further develop his translation skills. He looks forward to making media more accessible to others. James enjoys travelling, photography, and the 80s. 

Paula is from the Canary Islands (Spain) and is a final year student in Translation and Interpreting with Modern Languages at UEA.  She speaks Spanish, English, French and a little bit of German. She has always been interested in Audiovisual Translation, which is why she decided to volunteer with SAAM, as it is an excellent opportunity to gain some experience in this field. She is also taking a subtitling module as part of her degree, so this project is a great way to develop some subtitling skills and practice translation.  

Rémy is studying at UEA for his study abroad, thanks to that he will complete his degree in Applied Foreign Languages. He is from Clermont-Ferrand, a small city in the middle of France. He applied for his project thanks to Carlos, his teacher of the subtitle module. He was attracted by this project to learn more and practice subtitling. He likes watching series, Japanese anime and sport, especially rugby. 

Layssa is in her final year of studying Society, Culture and Media, as well as working towards her Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification. She is originally from Cambridgeshire and has also lived in Granada, Spain. She decided to volunteer for SAAM as both language-learning and translation are passions of hers and, through this project, she can continue to improve her skills whilst also working with charities to extend the reach of their messages. She plans to move back to Spain to teach English after graduating from UEA. Outside of languages, Layssa enjoys philosophy, video games, travelling, and movies. 

Morgane is a third year French exchange student. She is from Lyon, where she is studying English Language, Literature and Civilisation.  She has decided to join the SAAM project because she thought that it would be a good way to improve her translating skills and to put them to work in a new way, and it is also a great manner to help the world at her level.  During her spare time, she likes to do photography, pottery, buying books, and spending time with animals. 

Kirara is studying for a degree in Languages and Communication Studies at UEA. She is an exchange student and studied multilingualism and neurolinguistics at the Ritsumeikan University in Japan. She applied for the project because she am very interested in subtitling. She loves cooking, traveling, dogs, and learning languages such as French and Spanish.  

Niamh is studying BA in Modern Languages (Spanish). She will be living abroad in Spain next year for her year abroad. She applied for the project as she enjoys studying Spanish as well as watching Spanish series and films. Subtitling for Spanish seems interesting as well as a good way to further her knowledge alongside putting it into practise. Outside of university she loves reading, seeing friends, and watching films. 

Huma is an international student from France. She is in 3rd degree in Applied Foreign Languages. She is in UEA for one semester and wants to improve her English by learning new words and translation is a good way in her view. She applied for the project because she is always volunteer for a great cause. Outside of university Huma loves spending time with her friends and playing badminton. 

Hannah is in her second year of study at the University of East Anglia, she studies Modern Languages (Spanish and French) with Business Management Studies. She is from Cambridge and enjoys travelling to various different countries to immerse herself in their culture. She has decided to take part in the SAAM project because she enjoys studying languages and feels that this project will help her with her understanding and learning, also she enjoys trying new things and this is something that she has never tried before. The project is also an exciting and fulfilling opportunity to be able to take part in. She believes in the SAAM projects values and wants to be able to help to make the videos and texts more accessible to more and more people. 

Ollie is from Tottenham, in London, and is studying French and Spanish at the University of East Anglia. He was drawn to the project as an opportunity to gain translation and subtitling experience while helping to increase media accessibility and inclusivity, something he feels should be promoted across all platforms. In his free time, Ollie loves painting, hiking and making music. 

Narleni de La Cruz lives in Guadalajara. She is currently doing her last year of Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá de Henares. She became interested in the SAAM project to have a first-hand approach to audiovisual translation, which has always made her curious to learn about, and because the project's objectives are generous.

María is from Zaragoza, Spain. She is studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid). She decided to volunteer for this project with SAAM because she discovered she enjoyed audiovisual translation and thinks this would be an enriching experience. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn while helping others have easier access to audiovisual material.

Irene is from Guadalajara, Spain. She is in her final year of her degree in Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá (Madrid). She decided to volunteer for the SAAM project because she thought it will be a good opportunity to learn more about audio-visual translation as well as putting into practice what she has studied in class. Also, she loves the idea of collaborating with other foreign universities.

Lorena is from Ponferrada, in Spain. She is studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá de Henares in Madrid, so she currently lives there. She decided to join the SAAM project voluntary work because she thinks it will help her professional career, as she wants to become an audiovisual translator. In addition, she believes it is nice to be part of a project that helps to make audiovisual materials available to a greater number of people.

Javier Sánchez Jiménez is from Granada and is on his last year of a degree on Translation and Modern Languages at the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid). He decided to volunteer for SAAM project because he believes it is a great opportunity for him learn new abilities, audio-visual translation skills and meet new people while helping organizations who may need it.

Clara is finishing her studies in Translation and Interpreting in English and French at the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville. She loves translating and would love to work in the field of localisation and subtitling in future. She also likes working in groups, so she considered the SAAM project as an opportunity to improve her skills and get to know new people. Furthermore, she found pretty encouraging the idea of helping non-profit people-centred organisations to expand and gain more influence.

María comes from Sevilla, Spain. She studies Translation and Interpreting of both German and English at the University of Pablo de Olavide (Sevilla) and this will be her last semester (fingers crossed). She loves traveling. She's been in a couple of exchanges, first at Ruprecht Karl University in Heidelberg (Germany) and then at Dalhousie University in Halifax (Canada). She's also been volunteering with children for some years now and she really enjoys audiovisual translation, thus she thought that the SAAM project would be a really interesting opportunity for her.

Aruna is from Almería, in Spain. She is studying Translation and Interpreting at the Pablo de Olavide University (Seville). She decided to participate in the SAAM project, first of all, to start gaining experience in the world of translation, and also to taking part of a team. She is fascinated by audiovisual translation and if her work helps others, it is a win-win situation!

Paula is a 21-year-old student of Modern Languages and Translation in the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid). She decided to enroll in this project in order to immerse herself into the fascinating world of subtitling. Besides, she thinks that volunteering for an organisation which helps others is a great opportunity for her to learn even more.

Guadalupe is currently a final year student of the Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpreting (DE-EN). She has done numerous internships related to these two languages: she was a conversation and proofreading assistant (DE-ES) at the University of Saarbrücken (Germany); she has carried out text alignment projects in her three languages (ES-DE-EN); she participated in a text subtitling project in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía and the University of Pablo de Olvide; she has also done an internship as an interpreter at the European Film Festival of Seville (2023); finally, she is working in a company as a translator of DE-EN-ES.

Itziar is from Guadalajara (Spain) and studies Modern Languages and Translation in the University of Alcalá. She decided to volunteer for SAAM project because she enjoys participating in activities that include translating and aiding others. She is also part of the Scout Movement and always in search of ways to help.

Gabriel is from Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. He's a student of Modern Languages and Translation. He signed up for the SAAM project because he's always wanted to be part of a charity and make a change in the world. Furthermore, he thinks this will be a great opportunity to get a glimpse of how translation works outside of an academic context.

María Aliaga Rodríguez comes from Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. She's doing the fourth and final year of her degree in German Translation and Interpreting at the Pablo de Olavide University (Seville). She has signed up for this project because she really likes the audiovisual side of translation. She thinks that nowadays it is very important to have skills in this field. This experience will help her to develop my knowledge of audiovisual translation, organization, and teamwork.

Dina is a French-Moroccan student at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy where she studies Applied Language Studies, a course that focuses on languages and international business. She signed up for the SAAM project to gain experience in translation and to see if she would like to pursue translation as a career. She is looking forward to helping charities as a volunteer with the organisation.

Thibault is 20 and comes from Vosges, he is currently in his third year of studying Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations with a specialisation in English. He loves studying foreign languages such as German and English. Thibault has always been deeply interested in learning languages and hopes to become an English teacher. He has had the opportunity to take part in various language exchange programmes during his studies and has always enjoyed having the chance to communicate and connect with others. Foreign languages are no longer a barrier. The SAAM project will allow him to translate new materials that he would not have studied in class and will stimulate his curiosity and his desire to learn. Collaborating with the other SAAM project members is a great opportunity for him to improve his translation skills, but also and above all to offer his services and help those in need.

Lisa studies Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature, and Civilisations at the University of Lorraine, she has had a passion for translation for as long as she can remember. She loves creating a well-rounded translation and the spark of joy ignited by finding the right term or structure for a particularly difficult text. Lisa comes from a rural background and so she rarely had the chance to hear or speak any other languages in her day-to-day until she went off to Nancy to study languages. Since then, she has discovered her fondness of Germanic languages, especially English. She is delighted to be joining the SAAM Project as part of her final-year internship, she hopes to be able to actively contribute whilst also using the experience to improve her translation skills as well as gaining a certification in the field.

Amal is in her third year at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy. She studies Spanish, English and Arabic. She decided to join the SAAM project to gain experience with audiovisual translation as she has a particular interest in the translation of audiovisual materials. She didn't hesistate to join the SAAM team becuase it helps so many people.

Angèle is a first year student in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature, and Civilisations on the "bilingual-bicultural" pathway with English and Spanish, as well as French Sign Language at the Université de Lorraine. She is passionate about language learning and the art of word manipulation, she'd like some introductory experience in translation, as she plans on taking it up as she continues her studies. She believes the SAAM Project is a good way to become familiar with her languages and to improve her skills, as well as to learn more about translation. She also enjoys being able to talk with other language students from around the world.

Adrien is studying Applied Foreign Languages in English and German at the Faculté de Lettres in Nancy. He discovered the SAAM Project and wanted to be part of it to help contribute and to it and improve his translation skills. This is an opportunity to find out more about the fields of translation and subtitling which are often overlooked. Translation is one of his hobbies, as well as music, sports and technology.

Pauline comes from Nancy, France and is currently studying for a Masters in Humanities at the University of Lorraine where she previously completed her degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations. She specialises in translation from English into French. During her degree she was able to gain experience in advanced translation specialised in literary in audiovisual fields. She discovered interpreting when she was studying at UEA in 2021. She is now specialising in literature and mediation to combine her passion for books and for English. Pauline was involved in the SAAM project last year when she was an intern and a volunteer and because she enjoyed her experience so much she wants to continue to give her help. Her volunteering will allow her to learn more about different kinds of translation all while giving back.

Clément is a third-year English student at the Université de Lorraine and wishes to do a Master's degree in Translation. He has decided to join the SAAM Project in order to learn more about subtitling and acquire new useful skills in the world of translation, but also to provide access to audiovisual texts.

Tanguy is a third year student in Applied Foreign Languages (English and Spanish) at the Université de Lorraine. He has been interested in this project since he first heard about it. He joined the project as part of his degree but also to make good use of his skills, to gain experience in a field that interests him and to work with other people with the same interests.

Chloe has been a student at the University of Lorraine since September 2020 in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literatures and Civilisations, with a focus on English and Spanish. She likes to read and to watch films and series and wanted to participate with a volunteering project so participating in the SAAM Project has been a great opportunity. What she particularly likes about the project is the diversity of the work.

Clara is in her third year studying Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature, and Civilisation with a focus on English at the Université de Nancy, and has chosen the path focusing on Translation and Interculturality. She is passionate about learning foreign languages and she aspires to become multilingual. Clara became interested in the SAAM Project because it gives her the chance to gain experience in the translation field. In her free time, she enjoys reading books and playing video-games.

Lucas is starting his third year studying English at the Université de Lorraine. He chose to join the SAAM project not only to improve his language skills but to gain experience in the world of professional translation and to help those in need. During his free time he loves watching films and losing himself in video games.

Fanny is 27 and is in her last year of a master’s degree in Languages and Societies “Bilingual-bicultural”, specialized in translation and translation studies in English and Spanish at the University of Lorraine in Nancy. She worked as a project coordinator for three months as part of her master’s degree internship. Fanny is willing to be a specialized translator, a subtitler among other things. This is why the SAAM project held all her attention with its services in intralinguistic and interlinguistic translations and in subtitling, in addition to the values of sharing, mutual help and solidarity that the project carries and that are close to her convictions.

In the digital era, accessibility to audiovisual material is, according to her, a current struggle for the inclusion of all.

Margot is a third-year English student at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy. Hoping to work in the translation field, she decided to join the SAAM Project to gain real experience working in the field. The SAAM Project is also a good way for her to use her time and skills to help others which really motivated her to be part of this project.

Clotilde is studying Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations alongside journalism, however whilst looking for an internship she realised that she preferred culture and tourism. After watching the Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Peking, she realised that she liked translating what the Olympians said before the journalists could translate it into French. What she likes most about the SAAM project is that she can work in her free time without it feeling like a chore. She also thinks that it is a good way of getting into freelance translation all while developping translation skills and learning to use new tools.

Clara comes from Feurs, a little city along the Loire river in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. She is in the third year of her degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations with a focus on English in Nancy. She is interested in publishing and subtitling. She chose to join SAAM Project to deepen her knowledge of translation, to dicover more about the world of subtitling and to volunteer.

Shahiness is in her third year of Applied Language Studies in English and Spanish at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy. She joined the SAAM project because she likes languages and it is a perfect opportunity for her to practice her languages especially through translation, and also becuase she wants to help NGOs with their work.

Kylian is currently a third-year student in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations with a specialisation in English at the Université de Lorraine, Nancy, France. Kylian volunteered for the SAAM Project in order to complete his final-year internship. Moreover, this project is an opportunity to gain experience in the translation of audiovisual materials, a field that he could be more interested into thanks to the SAAM Project. He would like to work in the field of translation in the future.

Marine is from Nancy and is a student at the Faculté de Lettres et Sciences Humaines. She is now in her third year of Applied Foreign Languages with English and Russian. Learning languages has always interested her, especially English which is her favourite language. Joining the SAAM project is an opportunity to apply her knowledge of linguistics to help others.

Latifa is in her second year studying English and Spanish at the Université de Lorraine. She enjoys languages and travelling. She chose to become a volunteer for the SAAM project to improve her translation skills and to improve her language level in English and Spanish. On top of this, participating in the project will allow her to try out audio-visual translation and subtitling. She wants to make herself useful and support charities by helping to raise awareness. When Latifa graduates she wants to pursue a career to do with translation or tourism.

Lidia is 21 and has just completed her degree in Foreign Languages, Literature and Civilisations with a focus in English. She really enjoys translation and hopes to make it into her career. She worked with the SAAM project in 2021 as an intern and has decided to continue this year as a volunteer. She also works for another association translating and transcribing as a volunteer in her free time.

Geoffrey is in his second year of studying for his Masters in Languages and Societies with a specialism in translation and translation studies. He focuses on English and German but also knows some Chinese. He wanted to take part in the SAAM project because it seemed like a good way to improve his skills all while helping charities. Geoffrey would like to continue to use the skills he gains during his studies in his career. Later on he would like to work as a specialised translator.

Pauline was born in Bar-le-Duc in France. She is now an English student in Nancy. She joined the SAAM project because she is interested in subtitling and the translation of audiovisual materials and she thinks that the project offers a great opportunity for her to develop her knowledge and translation skills. Also, she likes the idea of making the content of various different charities accessible to a greater number of people.

Laura is currently in the final year of her degree in Foreign Languages, Literature and Civilisations (Spanish) at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy. After her degree, she would like to complete a masters in Interpreting for French and Spanish. She heard about SAAM whilst looking for an internship to complete for her studies. She thought it would be interesting to learn more about audiovisual translation. She also felt that as a blind person, she would be able to make good use of her knowledge of accessibility, in order for these videos to be made accessible to as many people as possible. During her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, reading, listening to music and watching Spanish TV series.

Kamelya was born in Nancy (France), where she is now doing a Masters degree. She graduated in Translation and Interculturalism at the Université de Lorraine. She is fluent in both French and English, and is now learning Chinese and Spanish. She also wishes to work with her second mother tongue, Turkish, so she can translate from Turkish when she starts her career as a translator. As she wishes to specialise in audiovisual translation, the SAAM Project is a real opportunity for her, as it offers the chance to learn how to subtitle all while being helpful to others. In her free time, she likes to cook, play the flute and watch series in a variety of languages.

Lou is a third year English student and wants to become a school teacher. She also does a bit of Spanish. She is passionate about English and American culture and has a keen interest in them both. The SAAM project is an opportunity for her to improve her translation skills and try something new.

Clarisse is in the third year of her degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations with a specialisation in translation on the Nancy campus. She studies English, German, Japanese, and Mandarin because she wants to become a translator ideally with audiovisual translation. She decided to join the SAAM project to gain experience in the field but also to be able to meet people from other cultures who share the same passion for foreign languages.

Viktoria was born in Nancy, France. She is currently in the third year of her English degree at the Université de Lorraine. She joined the SAAM project because she would like to gain experience in the subtitling field and become immersed in the world of translation. The project interests her because she has always been motivated by helping others and being of service.

Céila is in the third year of her degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations with a focus on English at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy. Despite specialising in journalism she has always been interested in translation and interpreting and the SAAM project offers her a great opportunity to work and to improve her translation skills. What most attracted her to the project was that the translation work is audiovisual which is one of her favourite fields. What also interests her is the chance to meet new people and to work with them to help people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Célia loves all types of art (books, painting, photography, dance, fashion, architecture, music etc) as well as languages (on top of English and Spanish she is trying to learn Mandarin and Korean).

Julie was born and raised in Nancy in Lorraine. She is completing her Masters in Translation in French, English, and Spanish at the ESIT. The SAAM project has already helped her to improve her translation skills and to learn more about audiovisual translation. This is why she wanted to continue for another semester. During her free time, Julie likes reading and writing, cooking, and spending time with her friends. She loves learning new languages and would like to learn many more, but for the moment, she speaks French, English, Spanish, and Italian.

Clara is a student from Nancy. She is studying English, Spanish and Chinese as a beginner. She is joining SAAM to help the project but also to gain a better understanding of the translation field and to improve her languages skills.
